May 2010. Bundi, India
You can’t help but stare at the amazing turbans and mustaches of Rajastan men. The turbans are usually electric orange, but sometimes you can see them being red or white. The mustaches however are always huge.
Generally speaking Indian people love to have their photos taken and almost always volunteer to pose for a shot. But the mustache men of Rajastan always seemed so serious and proud that I felt a bit intimidated to ask any of them if I could take a photo. It was the same case with this man. I really wanted to photograph him, but he seemed so busy talking to his friend, and so serious about himself, that I hesitated. And he noticed my hesitation and my camera. I didn’t say a word, but in an instant he straightened his back, put a light smile on his face and proudly posed, so I could take a photo. I was so excited that the photo ended up being a bit out of focus, but I really can’t care less. I love this portrait.
