Big blue

February 2010. Lake District, Argentina

Believe it or not, but this was not taken on some exotic Pacific paradise island. This was taken in Patagonia. Windy and more often than not chilly Patagonia. The area is called Lake District, and as you can probably guess it is full of lakes. I saw quite a few of them, but this one made the biggest impression on me. You can see why.

Star of Patagonia

February 2010. El Chalten, Argentina

Patagonia is one of the most beautiful parts of the world I have seen so far, and El Chalten is the most beautiful part of Patagonia I have visited.  Actually it’s not El Chalten that’s beautiful – it’s what’s around El Chalten.

The mountains.

It’s hard to find the words to describe them.  What’s unique about the peaks around El Chalten – Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy being the most famous – is their sheer granite faces, which make them some of the most difficult mountains to climb in the whole world. They are not very high, but so stunning.

My stay in El Chalten was not very lucky in terms of the weather. It was cloudy and it rained a lot, so I wasn’t able to make the most of this experience. But despite the mother nature not being very collaborative back then, I consider those few days in El Chalten to be some of the best during my career break trip.

Iguazu Falls

December 2009. Iguazu Falls, Brazil/Argentina.

I never was a big fan of waterfalls. Most of those I had seen failed to impress me. So after a while I learned to ignore majority  ofthem. But I had to make an exception for Iguazu Falls. They are just too famous and have too good reputation to just pass by and not to have a peek.  I didn’t know what to expect, but I kind of thought it couldn’t be anything more than just some water falling down the mountain.

Gosh, I was so wrong. The place happened to be mind blowing. The amount of waters was beyond my imagination and the ability to almost touch the falls was overwhelming. It took me two days to explore this place, and even then I felt like I could do it one more time. It’s one of the most amazing natural wonders I’ve seen in my life.
